The detail

About this template.

Career changers face a specific problem: the resume format everyone uses works against them. Reverse-chronological order puts your old industry first and your relevant capability last, so a recruiter reads three unrelated job titles before finding a reason to keep going. These five formats each solve that differently — and the workbook solves the harder problem underneath, which is that most people can't articulate their transferable skills until they've been walked through it.

Five resume formats

  • Functional — leads with core skills and achievements; work history condensed
  • Hybrid — balances competencies with a real experience timeline. The safest choice for most changers
  • Skills-first — technical skills grid and project experience, for people entering trades, tech or data
  • Career Returner — designed around a career break, with transferable skills and relevant experience leading
  • Military to Civilian — separates military experience from translated professional experience

The 12-page workbook takes you through four stages: clarify your direction, explore transferable skills, build your bridge, and plan next steps. Two structured exercises sit at its centre — one that extracts skills from your past work through guided prompts, and one that maps each skill to where it applies in your target role. These are fillable, so you can type into them or print them.

Also included

  • 30-day transition checklist across four weeks: foundation, preparation, execution, growth
  • Career-change cover letter with four opening frameworks for explaining a pivot
  • 60 reframing bullets that translate common experience into new-industry language

Straight answers.

Anything not covered here — get in touch or read the full FAQ.

How is this file built for applicant tracking systems?
The layout is built without tables, text boxes, or hidden columns in the content a parser reads, and it uses standard section headings such as Experience, Education and Skills. The reading order in the file matches the order you see on the page, so a text extraction returns your history in sequence. Every tracking system parses differently, so we describe how the document is constructed rather than promising a particular outcome.
What software do I need to edit it?
Microsoft Word, or a free Google account. Each pack includes a .docx file and a Google Docs version you copy into your own Drive; most also include an Apple Pages file. All of them export to PDF when you are ready to send. There is nothing to install and no proprietary editor to learn.
How does delivery work?
It is a digital download. Your files unlock as soon as payment clears — they appear in your account immediately and a link is emailed to you at the same time. Nothing ships, and you can re-download the files whenever you need them.
What does the licence cover?
Unlimited personal use. Edit the files as often as you like and tailor a fresh version for every role you apply to, for as long as you want. What you cannot do is resell, redistribute, or share the template files themselves as your own product.
